Is Sentinel-2 1C data georeferenced?

I read on one article saying this: ’ Sentinel 2 satellite image is not georeferenced on any coordinate system’. but i could not understand it when i open the any geotiff image that i generated from sentinel2 1C data on google earth it fits well on the scene automatically. can someone please explain?

As for the L1C and L2A products, Sentinel-2 is georeferenced using the UTM coordinate system.
