Log 10 transformation. Is it necessary even if we manually process the Level 1 OLCI imagery

Hello

I have a small question. Is it necessary to do a log 10 correction to the final image
manually processed from Sentinel 3 OLCI level 1 product by CR2CC processing? Moreover does
Log 10 makes any significant difference.?

Thank you

Sincerely
Rocktim

No there is no need to do a log10 on the data. You can and should use them as they are.

Dear Marpet

Thank you for the reply. But I wanted to know is there any specific reason for not using log 10.
Does it affects the chl data obtained from the CR2CC processing.

If you do the log10 on the input it will change the output of the C2RCC.
Why do you want to do it?

Dear Marpet

Actually I am learning SNAP and new to it so was curious.
And log 10 is done to normalize the data in statistics so wanted to know its purpose in snap.

What if I do it on the final output image after Cr2CC.

Sincerely
Rocktim

For your statistical analysis, you can use the log10.

Dear Marpet

Thank you for your response. I also came to know from the Sentinel 3 support team that Log 10 is used for visualization purpose and mainly used with
sentinel 1 images. It doesn’t reduce the error in unc Chl image anyways.

Thank you :relaxed:
