Difference between Coherency and Covariance matrix

Hi, I just wanted to know a simple difference between the coherency matrix and the covariance matrix and how does this difference create an effect in the ship detection?

The coherence matrix allows to analyze single scattering mechanisms within a pixel as well as their contribution to the total signal while the covariance matrix wllows the analysis of single polarization channels as well as their correlations.

I don’t know if they have an impact on ship detection because the backscatter of a ship on calm water is generally massive and mostly visibly in the intensity image. It would be interesting however what polarimetry can help to also identify smaller ships with less metal materials on rough water.

Thank you so much.

I do not think there would be a considerable difference of using T or C matrices as both are somehow identical. See my below post the relationship.
