ETAD for Atmospheric Correction in PSInSAR Time Series

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on my master thesis comparing different atmospheric correction methods for PSInSAR time series analysis using StaMPS. My study area includes the Campi Flegrei and Vesuvius volcanoes, where I aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the internal StaMPS atmospheric phase screen estimation versus external correction approaches using ERA5 data and ETAD. Specifically, I am trying to reproduce the approach described by Ivana Zinno et al. (2024) in their paper “On the Exploitation of the ETAD Product for Filtering Out the Atmospheric Phase Screen from Medium Resolution DInSAR Measurements” with the help of SNAP.

First off all, is there a known issue with the Auto Download option for ETAD Data, as it is not working for me.

Next I applied the ETAD Layer by using the Option 2 suggested for Interferometric purposes. I investigated the created layers and came across artifacts in the etadHeight Layer. I see that the height layer is not resampled to SLC resolution, but are the artifacts in the image known to occur?

Furthermore, the etadPhase Layer after Interferogram creation also experiences artifacts over water, which I guess is obvious because no correction is needed here. Nevertheless, this seems a bit off.

The paper proposes a method to prevent artifacts in areas with steep topography, which involves averaging the ETAD height layers off the stack. Is this workaround still required while using SNAP? Or are the issues mitigated while using SNAP processing?

Thank you very much in advance for any kind of help.
Maurice

@jun_lu Thank you! How About Slice Assembly? After applying the ETAD to the Split Products and assembling the Bursts, the ETAD Layers were gone.

A Jira ticket (Jira) has been created for the problem. We will look into it. Thank you for pointing out the issue.
