Generate DEM in forest area

Hi everyone,

Based on one of the snap esa tutorials mentioned that SAR is difficult to get DEM in forest area. But, how come the world dem, for example, ALOS DEM, tanDEM-X capable to provide global DEM? Can someone explain to me?

Thanks in advance.

The ALOS DEMs are based on optical data and photogrammetric techniques. Accordingly, they are not affected by phase decorrelation.

TanDEM-X is a bistatic configuration of high spatial resolution. The image pair was acquired at the same time and with an ideal perpendicular baseline (single pass).
This quality cannot be achieved by repeat pass data.
Lastly X band SAR is more sensitive to the top of the canopy than C or L band.

Thank you very much for your explanation.
