How to properly cite the usage of SNAP and the toolboxes in research papers

Hi everybody,
I wonder if there is “proper” way of citing the usage of the SNAP and the toolboxes in research papers. The GDAL Library for example provides something like this:
“Please cite us:
GDAL. 201x. GDAL - Geospatial Data Abstraction Library: Version x.x.x, Open Source Geospatial Foundation, http://gdal.osgeo.org”
and even a bibtex entry for copy and paste into latex bib files.

Thank you all for the great progress of this really nice software,
Christoph

Hi Christoph,

indeed currently we have no official citation text but thanks to your question we will start to think about it. In the meantime you can use a similar citation text for SNAP as GDAL suggests.
Maybe something like:
SNAP - ESA Sentinel Application Platform v2.0.2, http://step.esa.int

Thanks for thinking about to give us credits and visibility.

Dear @marpet,
any update of this citation style? Since the answer was given 3.5 years ago I was wondering if this is still the best way to cite snap

I guess you can adapt the citation with recent version (7.0.3), and using the citation norm you want. With APA style, here’s a solution for you: https://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2015/01/how-to-cite-software-in-apa-style.html
