Import ALOS-2 CEOS

I’ve installed SNAP 2.0 beta testing for Mac OS X and download the installation for S1TBX package. However, I can not import SAR data for ALOS-2 CEOS in any level data product (1.1; 1.5 and 2.1). Thanks and best regards,
agustan

This should be fixed now

I’m trying to import both ALOS PALSAR and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 level 1.1 (CEOS format) and I’m always getting the same error message:

org.esa.s1tbx.io.ceos.basic.BasicCeosProductReader
[input=path to VOL file]:
java.lang.NullPointerException

Details OS and Product:
Product Version: SNAP 201411181905
Java: 1.8.0_45; Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM 25.45-b02
Runtime: Java™ SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_45-b14
System: Windows 7 version 6.1 running on amd64; Cp1252; en_gb (snap)

Many thanks and best wishes
Joao

I also have installed SNAP on a windows platform and I also have the same error. I get it with both ALOS PALSAR and ALOS-2 PALSAR.

I also cannot open TerraSAR-X data but I get a different error:

org.esa.sb1tbx.io.terrasarx.TerraSarXProductReader
[input=pathe to xml file]:
The product’XXX’ already contains a band with the name ‘i_HH_SRA_STRIP_001’.

However, my Radarsat-2 data seems to work fine.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Frances

Hi!

I am not sure this problem was already fixed. I still have the same problems
in importing ALOS2/ALOS level 1.1 data with SNAP 2.0 beta 5.

I have not successfully imported ALOS/ALOS2 data by using S1TBX yet.
Am I missing anything? Or, how can I import ALOS/ALOS2 level 1.1 data?

I’ll check the above problems with the new beta to be released in this week
in which some fixes regarding to ALOS/ALOS2 importer would be applied.

Thanks.
Itaru

Hi,

have you fixed the problem of importing PALSAR-2 data? I have the same problem, but still unresolved.

Thanks a lot ,
Zhe

Hi,

Unfortunately, not yet.
I’d appreciate any info about this problem.

Thanks.
Itaru

wish this problem can be fixed later.

Hi,
I have the same problem when reading ALOS 2, using the SNAP beta 2.0. I wish this can be fixed soon.
Thanks.

wish this be fixed soon too

It is fixed as far as I know

Dear All,
I’ve downloaded and installed SNAP 2.0.6 for MacOS and thanks it works well.
For ALOS-2 Level 1.1 data: importing, radiometric calibration, speckle noise, geometric and polarimetric functions work well.
Only small display error in: Radar–>Radiometric–>Calibrate, tab processing parameter.
Well done, thank you very much and best regards,
agustan

Hello:

Thank you very much for your effort! I could import and InSAR ALOS2 data successfully,
and am going to try more data.

Best regards,
Itaru

Dear Agustan,
I tried to import ALOS-2 1.1 level full polarimetric data but it shows the following error.
“java.lang.NullpointerException”
I would appreciate if you kindly suggestion me some solution. I am using latest version of SNAP on windows7.

Best
Ram

Hello,

I am also encountering the same problem with the ALOS CEOS file. I tried loading the same file many times, but still unsuccessful. It gives the same error, the null pointer exception.

I tried a different scene, then it worked.

Now, I don’t know what the real problem is. Can you give some insights about the possible issue?

What version of the toolbox are you using, what product are you reading and where was it processed from?

Does anyone know if ALOS-2 ScanSAR1 mode (Observation width 350 km, resolution 100 m) is supported in SNAP?

I don’t want to order images without knowing.

Hi,

I had the same error while trying to read ALOS/PALSAR-1 products, with the last SNAP version installed in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bits.

After reading the log message file created by SNAP, I noticed that snap couldn’t find the “LEADER_CEOS.TXT” file, although a “leader_ceos.txt” file was available in the path. So, I renamed the three .txt files (leader_ceos, trailer_ceos and image_ceos) to upper case letters, including the file extension. This solved the problem for me.
I hope this is solved for future versions of SNAP; may be the same problem arises with Mac versions.

Best,
Natalia

Dear @ABraun ,
I also have the same problem now. I want to use a SAR data for estimating biomass and carbon sequestration in a forest area… I couldn’t decide what format of ALOS do I need to buy? I also don’t want to buy that is not supported in SNAP? What would you advice?
Thyank you in advance,

Level 1.1 CEOS can always be processed in SNAP and you can perform Calibration and Terrain correction on your own. This is no longer possible with Level 2 data therefore I don’t recommend it.
