Range- and Azimuth Looks

Hello everyone,
I am trying to get interferograms in order to measure deformation in a volcanic region. So far I have already generated some interferograms based on Sentinel1. But there is something that I do not understand: how useful is considering the “range looks” and “azimuth looks”? How could these parameters improve my interferogram?

Thank you in advance for your help!

due to the side-looking geometry of the SAR acquisition system, the spatial resolution is different in range and azimuth direction.

Sometimes it makes sense to apply multi looking to the interferogram to generate pixels of square geometries. This does not restore bad phase quality in areas of decorrelation but helps to get clearer fringe patterns in your interferogram. But it depends on the pattern you observe, the initial resolution of the image and the fringe density.

Thank you so much for your explanation!

Best,
Aleja
