Seninel-2 MSI image generation steps

Hello,

Is there any resource technically explains how a sentinel-2 image is generated step by step from data acquisition by detectors to Level 2A reflectance value? (with all inputs and calculations)

You can start with these…
Sentinel-2 User Handbook (copernicus.eu)
Sentinel-2 MSI - Technical Guide - Sentinel Online - Sentinel (copernicus.eu)

And you can try a couple of google searches to find more detail.

Some other users in the forum may be able to give more directions… but you should perhaps explain the level of detail you expect!

This is not the best place to post this sort of question, this forum is about SNAP and related Toolboxes not about the Sentinel data production and distribution for which other official channels exist. You can contact the official Sentinel support and ask the question!?

Hi @PiriReis

The path from L0 to L2A is described here:
https://sentinel.esa.int/web/sentinel/technical-guides/sentinel-2-msi/products-algorithms. There are currently no Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents( ATBD) released for L1C or L2A production.

Thanks for the reply.

I have already read these guides and searched on google what I asked here for but unfortunately I could not find any resources. I created this topic, since I thought there might be someone who wondered the image generation steps like me and found some papers.

Maybe it is better to contact to official support as you suggest.

Based on this I would say that Sentinel-2/MSI processing is probably covered by IPR that can’t be made public. @Jan can you confirm this?

Thank you very much for the reply. An official documentation would be great and hope to be available upcoming years.

Hi @cristianoLopes

I presume this to be the case.I would note that the L2A ATBD is currently under ESA review. I shall raise it at the Regular Service Review next week.
