SNAP 14 on ubuntu not shutting down java processes

Hello,

I am having issues with SNAP not shutting down properly on my Linux machine. I’m running SNAP 14.0.0 on Xubuntu 24.04.5 LTS. (BTW: The update installer shows a notification for version 14.0.1 being available, but its not installing)

I did some reprojecting, subsetting, mosaicking, optical processing and plotting of multiple products (Sentinel 2 and 3, PACE and others.) and noticed that I am running out of memory. Even after closing SNAP it seems that all processes remain alive (sleeping), memory isnt freed and I have to kill them individually. However it is still possible to restart SNAP GUI with the stale processes in the background.

I also completely removed SNAP (including .snap folder) and did a fresh install of 14.0.0 but the problem persists. SNAP shows no errors in the GUI or in the logs.

I never noticed this with SNAP 13, but I am not 100% sure.

Is anyone else having problems like that or know if it can be an issue unrelated to SNAP?

cheers
Daniel

Thank you for reporting this issue.

We tested the behavior on our systems, but so far we have not been able to reproduce it. We are continuing to investigate.

Could you please provide the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue, ideally the smallest workflow that triggers it. Does it also happen if you simply start SNAP and close it without opening or processing any products?

Hello,

sorry for the delay. The underlying shell process doesnt get back to the prompt and on another machine with same OS/SNAP versions the problem doesnt appear. So it will be something related to my local setup and I will have to figure it out.

Thanks

Daniel
