Hi, I have done some changes in SNAP code in order to properly load Sentinel-1 products from the S1 AWS bucket without directly downloading a copy to a local folder.
I have commited two pull requests, I am happy if this is useful to SNAP team or any one:

This commit fixes the File management of GPT operators using VFS.
Wow! Now SNAP GPT tool runs like a charm in an AWS EC2 instance using the AWS S1 bucket without any downloading:
gpt
./settings/gpt/s1_to_avh+ivh-geotiff.xml
-Pinput1=AWS_S1L1C_vfs:/GRD/2019/6/6/IW/DV/S1B_IW_…_5C_6ECF/manifest.safe
-Poutput1=./output/tests/result-S1.tif
