SNAP Java issue after Deployment of Sentinel-2 Processing Baseline in version 05.11

Hello there :slightly_smiling_face:

I am experiencing a problem with processing Sentinel-2 L2A released after 23/07/2024
When i try to import, as usual, MTD_MSIL2A.xml inside Sentinel-2 root folder, SNAP produces this error:
java.io.IOException: Unable to read metadata from MTD_MSIL2A.xml
at eu.esa.opt.dataio.s2.l2a.metadata.L2aMetadata.initProduct(L2aMetadata.java:110)

i run SNAP on linux ubuntu server (18.04 and 22.04), SNAP version: 9.0 and 10.0 (with last update installed)

I check the difference between MTD_MSIL2A.xml before 23/07 and after:

  1. namespaces in root tag
  2. DARK_FEATURES class renamed in CAST_SHADOW as reported in this Copernicus News: Deployment of Sentinel-2 Processing Baseline in version 05.11 on 23 July | Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem

is anyone experiencing the same problem? how can i solve it?
Thank you in advance

Same issue - Unable to LOAD any Sent2A files INTO SNAP.
Downloaded as normal - unpacked as normal - when I try to load, SNAP responds
with - ‘Unable to read metadata from MTD_MSIL2A.xml’
in the SNAP - Open Product screen.
Probably the same error as yours except it applies to images taken at 07-30 am
on 23 July 2024 and also at the same time on 26 July 2024.

I have re-loaded last valid images from 21 July 2024 and they still worked fine.
I have tried Un-Installing SNAP and Re-Installing - no luck - still same message.

Will follow replies on this thread.

It seems like the same problem:

A module update (10.0.2) is available for the Optical Toolbox module. Please update your SNAP.

I believe I am also coming across the issues on SNAP V9 (using v9 because using modules that don’t work in SNAP v10). Is the only fix to update SNAP beyond V9?

Hello. It does not work for me even after all suggested updates installed (tried with SNAP version 9 and 10).

A SNAP 9 update will be available soon.

Do you have the same issue with the latest SNAP 10 update? Could you provide the log file containing the error and the name of the S2 product?

S2tbx 9.0.3 module update available. Please update your SNAP 9.

Hello Diana.

I’m new using SNAP for processing images.

I have update my SNAP 9, but in the process this warning window comes out, and the pluging Sentinel 2 Toolbox kit module turn inactive.

When I tried to activate, there is another window

this is the other window

Maybe I’m doing something wrong.
Any suggestion it would be appreciate.
I’m using SNAP 9, and there are no more updates to do.

Thank you in advance.

Please use SNAP 10, the current supported version. Did you not receive a notification via the GUI that SNAP 10 has been released?

Thanks @mengdahl, I’m going to update the version. By the way, I saw the notification, and just skip it. . I’m new using snap. Thanks for the reply.
